Further to “What’s in a Name” there is Adam’s role in Genesis as the one who names all created beings. This quality of Adam carries over into the mystical traditions of many of the Abrahamic faiths. There is a religious community in southern Iraq called the Madaeans, who are said to give their children at birth two names, one of which is a secret “Adamic” name, that is not to be shared with anyone outside the family.
